I have been getting rid of all my old art in the last year by selling, donating or cutting it up and turning it into something else. I made these little sketchbooks by printing and sewing onto fabric, vinyl and paper scraps from my studio. The inside pages are chopped down old lithographs and screen prints. Einstein was born March 14th. I drew this for my dad many years ago. I chose this image because it was of Einstein the same age my dad turned when I gave it to him. Some things we have in common: dropped out of high school, love being barefoot and um, that’s all. Happy birthday, Albert!

It’s that time of year! Spring cleaning and taxes! I’ve been digging through receipts and spreadsheets to conquer my fear of paperwork. Art making is all fun and games until you have to do this part of the job. I’m trying to make the best of it by watching some of my favorite movies. That way, I know I will enjoy what I watch, but I have seen them enough times that I can still focus on the task at hand. Pretty smart, huh? No! I don’t feel so smart looking at all these numbers…

The second part is spring cleaning. I am clearing out many older works from my studio by having an art show at Barefoot Coffee in Campbell, CA until the end of this month. By formerly operating on the “cluttered desk cluttered mind” philosophy, I became easily overwhelmed by everything in my studio. Now that it is nice and clean, I’ve had a flood of new ideas. Plus, if I handle the finances and cleaning earlier in the year, I should have way more time to make things.

Okay, there is a third part. This year, I will be spending more time on the writing of posts and not being lazy by just uploading photos. This has been a goal of mine for too long. I suppose this is my first lengthy write-up and I look forward to writing more.

I made this candy dispenser in 7th grade woodshop in Vancouver, WA. Living up there for junior high was awesome. I learned to fish, swam in millions of rivers and learned how to be a ‘bad kid.’ It had been sitting in a box for awhile because the mason jar lid that’s nailed to the block was an odd size. I finally found a jar that fits! I put some sunflower seeds in it, but Stanley would rather it be a catnip dispenser.
